The Backgammon is a battle game in which two players compete and their objective is to eliminate all the tiles or checkers (“soldiers”) from the Backgammon board. The chips are black or white. There are complexities of the game that this article does not cover, however, reading these basic rules any player who wants to make a friendly game or in online casinos can do it with all success.
Each player has 15 checkers and must eliminate them from the board (what is called “bear off” or draw) before the opponent manages to do so. The player moves by rolling two dice, which will determine how far he can move his checkers. The players must move all their checkers to the starting board of the opponent and thus draw the checkers of the opponent from the board.
The Backgammon board is divided into two halves, in each of them there are 12 triangles, or “squares”. The squares are aligned in 6 groups and tacked one to the other on each side of the board.
In total there are 24 squares on the Backgammon board, 12 squares on each side, 6 squares tacked for the other 6. In the same way on the boards of online casinos.
The structure of the Backgammon board
The half of the right end of the Backgammon board is the starting square of the player, while the closest right is that of the opponent’s square. Thus, your “home” is the first 6 boxes. The goal is to finish in the last 6 squares, whether you play in live casinos or in online casinos.
Your opponent should try to do the same, but on the opposite side of the board. The “house” of the adversary is his destiny and vice versa.
The initial positioning in the Backgammon board
You will notice that this is not necessary in the Backgammon in online casinos, as the board is automatically arranged.
• Put 2 checkers in box 24.
• Put 5 checkers in box 13.
• Put 3 checkers in box 8.
• Put 5 checkers in box 6.
How to move the ladies
Before the game begins Backgammon must be chosen who plays first. Each player rolls a die and the one with the highest number starts the game. If the two players draw the same number, they must roll the dice again until the tie.
The starting player must move a tab according to the first die and a second lady as the second die. After the first move, the player may choose to move the same chip again according to the second die. Then, it is the turn of the other player.
As you may have noticed, the order of the movements of the ladies corresponds to the numerical value of the boxes. Therefore, it can only move up and not stop. Backgammon rules allow you to move your lady box 3 to 7, but not box 7 to 3. The backgammon online casinos makes things simple, it does not allow illegal moves.
In short, according to the rules of Backgammon, the movement of the chips is in the direction of clockwise if you play with white ladies and against the direction of clockwise if you play with black.
A player can move his queen to where he wants if he has a place for that, but he can not move a queen for a square that already has more than 1 enemy queen present. If there are at least 2 enemy checkers, that box is “blocked” and the opponent can not place his checkers there. The software of online casinos will tell you when a move is illegal.
A player can also divide his movement (“split”) in two: he can choose to move two different ladies, each one according to the number drawn with each die. If a player rolls 4-2, he can move a chip four squares from his position and, move the other chip two squares.
If that information is sufficient, you may want to play at online casinos and check if you have learned the necessary tools. Otherwise, continue reading the contents of the Backgammon rules.
A player can choose to move his queen to a square that only has one enemy queen, this is called “hitting”. Note that a lady who is exposed to that action is called a “blot.”
When a lady is “captured” she must be placed on the bar. Then the player can not move any lady until they put their queen back on the board.
A player can return his queen to the board by doing the following:
• The player rolls the dice, and if the number achieved corresponds to a square on the opponent’s board, then the player can place his queen there, but only if he does not It is blocked by the adversary’s ladies.
• If the player does not achieve a corresponding number, then he lets his turn pass and leaves it to his opponent.
• Note that the opponent’s squares have the opposite numbers. That which would be considered the 24th box would be the 1st space of the opponent.
When a player rolls the dice and receives the same number in both is called “a double” and gives right to 4 plays. That means you can only move your lady up to 4 moves or play split moves of 2.3 or 4 ladies at a time.
For example, if a player rolls 3-3 (double 3) he can move a queen four times or choose to move two-four different drafts and divide the four moves as desired.
Final note on the rules of the movements
A player can sometimes not manage to move his checkers. Your ladies are in the bar, or all the next squares are occupied by the adversary’s ladies. According to the rules of the Backgammon, if a player can not use the dice in a legal movement he must yield his turn.
There may be other cases in which a player can not fully move his checkers. You can then divide your movement and move according to the result of the dice. For example, if a player rolls 3-6 and can not walk 9 squares or divide his movement in two moves, he can barely move a lady 6 squares, yielding one movement.
“Bearing off” (draw)
A player can draw his checkers only when they are all present on his side of the board. Then he will draw his ladies by pulling a number corresponding to the box they are in. If a player has a queen in the 6th space he must draw a 6 to get it out of the board.
A player may decide not to draw if he can make any other legal move. For example, if a player has a queen in the 6th space and rolls 2-1, she can simply move her to the 3rd space if she has ladies in the 2nd and 1st boxes.
If at any time during the “bearing off” the player’s lady was captured, she can not remove other ladies until the captured lady is reinserted into the game and into the player’s starting board.
